SUMMARY

Espera emigrated to Brazil after an earthquake destroyed his hometown in Haiti. Since then, he has had to reinvent himself to survive in São Paulo and provide for his daughter, who stayed with her mother in Port-au-Prince. In his rush for money, he distanced himself from his community, his spirituality and made new acquaintances in Brazil. But the murder of an old friend in São Paulo brought Espera's fears to the surface.
